WHALE WATCHING - Pleasant Bay is the whale watching capital of Cape Breton. We have more whales than any other place in Nova Scotia. We are the only community that 100% guarantees whale sightings. If you don`t see any whales with us, we will give you all your money back. We highly recommend Wesley's Whale Watch and Captain Zodiac for whale watching tours in Pleasant Bay and Cheticamp.

WHALE INTERPRETIVE CENTRE - The whale interpretive centre at Pleasant Bay is one of Nova Scotia's newest museums. The interpretive centre inspires, promotes and preserves an awareness of whales and marine life in Cape Breton. The centre has a tank with live, local small marine creatures. For example, lobsters, different types of crab, starfish, etc. They also have a life size model of a pilot whale, named Hook. You can often see real live whales from the binoculars on the patio of the whale centre. There is something for everyone. Come see for yourself!

GAMPO ABBEY - The abbey is a buddhist monastery which offers limited tours through their main quarters and grounds for all who wish to visit and learn more about their culture and way of life. They also have a large monument dedicated to world peace, worth over a half million dollars, made partially with real gold. It has a descriptive write up, so even if you miss the tours, you can still learn a lot about their culture and enjoy the beautiful monument.

TIMMONS FOLK ART STUDIO - The studio is owned and operated by Sue Timmons. All items in the shop have been handcrafted right in Pleasant Bay. Want something truly unique to Cape Breton? Look no further. Available by chance or by appointment.

HIKING - The hiking trails in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park are some of the most popular anywhere in Nova Scotia. The Skyline trail boasts the best views of the Cabot Trail and is very popular with all the guests. The Skyline trail not only has beautiful scenery, it is a common area for seeing moose and other wildlife. Enjoy any of the 27 hiking trails in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Each one is uniquely beautiful. Hikes within walking distance of the hostel are MacIntosh Brook(a waterfall) and The Lone Shieling (a replica of a sheppard's hut).
